West Kowloon Station’s curved building blends seamlessly into the urban high-rise environment of the Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong.

Large glass walls welcome arriving passengers and the south façade offers stunning views of Hong Kong’s spectacular harbour and skyline. Approximately three hectares of public space open up the station above ground via the Green Plaza and the Sky Corridor. The curved roof bends down to street level at one end of the building, enabling travellers to walk on and over the station.

The project

The concept

The curved structure of the station creates a complex three-dimensional curved window. With more than 4,000 irregularly shaped glass elements, the curtain wall directs daylight into the inside of the building and maximises the light, contributing to a reduction in energy costs. The glass roof consists of three triangular curved steel trusses and the spectacular structure is supported by nine groups of columns up to a height of 45m. The south façade with integrated entrance portal has a maximum height of approximately 24m and a span of 75m.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed 64,000 sqm of façades, including clerestory, glass fin wall, skylight, light box, tertiary fins and lift. We also supplied around 8,000t of steel construction for the curved ceiling.
