The Concept

Harvard Business School, one of the most renowned business schools worldwide, aimed to create a central space for events. The pavilion is also based on the adjacent Klarman Hall. Its transparent design is in contrast to the neighboring university buildings, however preserving the historic view. The HBS Schwartz Pavilion was recently given a 2019 SARA National Design Merit Award. SARA is the Society of American Registered Architects. In the early summer the project also received a 2019 Design Honor Award from the New York chapter of SARA.

Glass walls, feature double strips Ipachrome screen printing with white digital printing, matching in width and arrangement and aligned on two levels. All glasses are SGP laminated in order to improve structural properties, and they are made of highly transparent low-iron glass. This way, light transmission could be improved despite the printing and acid-etch, and green cast avoided. A horizontal sliding wall, 3.50 m (11 ft) high and 9.50 m (30 ft) wide, opens the pavilion sideways to the garden. The individual panels of the partitions are made of aluminum and glass. They are held and guided at two points in upper guide rails by means of a concealed fitting system. Glass roof featuring curved glass panels with two overlapping levels, supported by stainless steel columns. The glass panes create unique lighting effects through dotted screen printing and special etching. The pavilion, which is largely open on all sides, is clad with glass partitions and balustrades partly serving as a windbreak. The highly alloyed structural stainless steel columns (duplex) have undergone repeated blasting with corundum chips and glass beads. The aluminum soffits have Duraflon coating.
