The Concept

The new building project Mizal in Düsseldorf, a trend-setting office campus consisting of a 44 m (144 ft) high and several up to 22 m (72 ft) high buildings at the Media Harbour, was initially to be clad with a single-skin façade. During a site visit at 22 Bishopsgate in London, Gartner was able to convince the clients of the advantages a CCF would offer. By 2021, the Mizal building will be clad with a 17,630 sqm (189,800 sq ft) CCF, the largest CCF ever built in Germany. 

The scaled façade follows the complex zigzag geometry of the building. It is structured by strips with large and high-quality lacquered metal sheets between the stories. The highly transparent CCF façade system, together with a single-skin stick-system façade, is intended to offer the future tenant, an advertising agency, a transparent and communication-promoting working environment with plenty of daylight. The lobby will feature two-story high CCF façades. Venetian blinds with 60 mm (2 23/64”) perforated slats will be integrated into the standard units of the CCF (1.25 x 3.30 m / 4 x 11 ft). The blinds will be installed inside the cavity and thus be protected from damage and dirt.

Scope of Work

Design & engineering, manufacturing and installation of 17,630 sqm (189,800 sq ft) of facade. Exterior façade with Duraflon coating, Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) stepped with operable vents in the mullion. Venetian blinds with 60 mm (2 23/64”) perforated slats for sun protection. Loggia façade with sliding doors and steel handrails, two-story high lobby and entrance façade, roof structures, smoke vents, entrance doors, revolving doors.
