The Concept

At its group headquarters in Basel, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG is investing in a new research and development center. Situated right next to Roche Building 1 the complex consists of four main buildings (Building 4 to Building 7) with connecting structures. 


Building 4 will house a Convention Center, auditoriums and training rooms, while buildings 5-7 house the Innovation Center, offices, laboratories and meeting zones. The buildings are staggered in height up to the highest building, Building 7 with approx. 114 m (374 ft). 

The Project
Scope of Work

Design & engineering, manufacture and installation of a total façade area for Building 6 of 12,385 sqm (133,300 sq ft) and for Building 7 of 20,007 sqm (215,360 sq ft) of mfree-SCCF (Moisture Free, Sustainable, Closed Cavity Façade), for an overall surface of around 32,400 sqm (348,800 sq ft).

Design & engineering, manufacture and installation of a total façade area for Building 4 and Building 5 of 3,227 sqm (34,736 sq ft) of wooden windows and 5,305 sqm (57,100 sq ft) of aluminum façade. 

Ground floor closed cavity façade (CCF): size 1.36 x 4.80 m (4 x 16 ft) with integrated canopy and doors.
Building 6 and Building 7, 1st floor: CCF, size 1.36 x 5.365 m (4 x 18 ft) with spandrel unit.
Building 6, 2nd floor to 15th floor and 2nd floor to 25th floor: CCF, glazed and opaque façade units with standard size 1.36 x 4.29 m (4 x 14 ft).
All glazed façade units with integrated blinds with flat lamellas (80 mm / 3 5/32”), opaque units with fixed sun protection.
Furthermore, supply and installation of façades for connecting bridges and glazed revolving doors.


Ground floor, Building 4: aluminum stick system with awnings, corners partly with curved glass panes.
Ground floor, Building 5: double-skin façade - outside: impact panes, inside: aluminum stick system with integrated sun protection.
Building 4 and Building 5, 1st floor: double-skin façade - outside: impact panes, inside: wooden windows with integrated sun protection.
Connecting bridges (avenue façade) with aluminum stick system façade as well as round skylights.
Furthermore, supply and installation of revolving doors, separating systems, (round) sliding doors.
